“New CBS Release Date Unveils Replacement for Blue Bloods”
CBS has officially announced the show that will replace Blue Bloods in its Friday night time slot. After 14 successful seasons, the long-running police procedural about the Reagan family will come to an end, with the final eight episodes of season 14 airing at 10:00 p.m. ET on Fridays through December 13.
Blue Bloods, which premiered in 2010, follows the lives of an intergenerational family of law enforcement officers in New York City. The cast has remained remarkably stable throughout its run, with Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, and Tom Selleck starring in every season. Marisa Ramirez and Vanessa Ray have also been regulars since season 3 and season 4, respectively.
With Blue Bloods concluding, S.W.A.T. will take over the Friday 10:00 p.m. ET time slot beginning January 31, 2025. This procedural series, which follows an elite Los Angeles-based Special Weapons and Tactics unit, has already been airing on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. ET as part of its eighth season. The show, which stars Shemar Moore and features a strong ensemble cast, is a remake of the 1975 series and exists within the same universe as The Shield on FX.
The time slot shift means that S.W.A.T. will resume its season following a midseason hiatus at its new time of 10:00 p.m. ET, where it will now air immediately after Fire Country, CBS’s firefighter drama. The 9:00 p.m. time slot will be taken over by NCIS: Sydney’s season 2 premiere.
This change is unlikely to affect S.W.A.T.’s overall season schedule, as it’s expected to finish its 22-episode season without significant delays. However, this shift does mark a big moment for CBS’ Friday programming. With Blue Bloods no longer airing, S.W.A.T. becomes the network’s sole police procedural on the night. The varied lineup—now consisting of S.W.A.T., Fire Country, and NCIS: Sydney—could give S.W.A.T. a chance to stand out more, especially as Blue Bloods fans search for a new show to watch on Fridays. It will be interesting to see how the series performs in its new, higher-profile slot.
