“New ‘Yellowstone’ Trailer Signals Impending Dutton Family Showdown”
The Dutton family civil war in Yellowstone erupts into open conflict in the official trailer for the second half of season five.
“I can’t do this anymore,” Beth Dutton, portrayed by Kelly Reilly, expresses her anxiety in the trailer. Her husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), responds, “Well, you’re gonna have to, honey. Or we’re gonna lose this place.” As the Paramount Network drama prepares for its long-awaited return, the first half of season five ended in January 2023. “This war is just beginning,” warns Kevin Costner, who, despite his high-profile exit from the show as John Dutton, appears in the trailer in scenes likely meant to conclude his character’s arc. Costner departed the series after the season five hiatus to focus on his Horizon film saga.
Tension mounts as Jamie Dutton, played by Wes Bentley, confronts his sister, declaring, “You destroy me, you destroy yourself.” The stakes are high. “Old lions die in the jaws of younger lions. And you are the younger lion,” cautions Dawn Olivieri, who portrays Jamie’s love interest, Sarah Atwood.
Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family, which controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the U.S. Within this fractured family, shifting alliances, unresolved murders, and deep-seated grievances ignite fierce confrontations. The Montana ranchers face external threats from a growing town, an Indian reservation, and America’s first national park.
The series, created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson, is set to return on Sunday, Nov. 10. Season 5B episodes will premiere at 8 p.m. on Paramount Network, with an encore airing two hours later on CBS.
The return of Yellowstone is shrouded in secrecy; even the cast is uncertain about the plot developments. The scripts for the latter half of the season were heavily redacted, ensuring actors knew only their lines, resulting in genuine reactions during filming.
Reilly and Hauser, who portray Beth and Rip, are in discussions for a potential sixth season of Yellowstone, despite the announcement that season 5B would be the series’ final installment. Paramount Network has yet to comment on the status of future episodes or the total count for season 5B.
Any continuation would differ from the Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison, which will star Michelle Pfeiffer, Matthew Fox, and Patrick J. Adams, among others.
Yellowstone is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, co-created by executive producers Sheridan and John Linson. Costner remains an executive producer alongside Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Bob Yari, Stephen Kay, Michael Friedman, Voros, and Keith Cox. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
