“Tom Selleck, 79, Admits He’s Never Used Email or Text, Relying on Wife Jillie, 66, for Tech Help”

At 79, Tom Selleck is embracing a low-tech lifestyle, revealing that he has never used email or sent a text message. Instead, he relies on his wife, Jillie, 66, and his secretary to handle his digital communications. “Occasionally I’ve looked up my name online, mainly because of the book, but I’ve never sent my own email or texted anyone,” Selleck told People magazine.

Selleck, known for his role in Three Men and a Baby, considers it a luxury that Jillie is willing to manage his messages. “It’s a luxury I probably couldn’t survive without,” he admitted. Despite this, he finds it challenging to put thoughts into writing, a curious fact given his new memoir, You Never Know.

When he’s not on set for Blue Bloods, Selleck enjoys the tranquility of his 63-acre California ranch. He takes pleasure in tending to his wildflowers and unwinding with a cigar and a glass of whisky. “I’ve had a very good life, a very lucky life,” he reflects. However, he was heartbroken when droughts devastated much of his land, including avocado trees and 100-year-old oaks. Thankfully, recent rains have rejuvenated the plants.

Selleck’s journey to stardom was serendipitous. After a modeling career, including a Pepsi commercial in the late 1960s, he transitioned into acting. Though he didn’t have formal training, he landed roles on The Young and the Restless and various TV shows before achieving fame with Magnum P.I. He describes his career as one of “endless failures” but acknowledges it as an accidental success.

At 35, Selleck’s role as Thomas Magnum brought him critical acclaim and five Emmy nominations, with a win in 1985. Despite the fame, he never sought stardom for its own sake, focusing instead on securing work.

Selleck, who has been married to Jillie since 1983, remains deeply in love and cherishes their time together. They have a daughter, Hannah, 35, and he also has an adult son, Kevin, from his previous marriage. Though he films Blue Bloods in New York City, he returns to his ranch in Ventura, California, every two weeks to be with his family.

Selleck’s memoir, You Never Know, set for release on May 7, reflects on his unique career path and personal experiences. Despite his unexpected rise to fame, he remains grounded and grateful for his journey.
