“Tom Selleck Admits He’s Never Sent a Text or Email: ‘I Struggle with Writing'”

While promoting his new memoir, Tom Selleck revealed that he largely avoids modern technology. Despite the irony of discussing his struggles with writing while releasing a book, Selleck explained his absence from digital communication.

In a recent interview with People, the Blue Bloods star admitted he has never sent a text or an email. “Occasionally, I’ve looked up my name, especially with the book coming out, but I’ve never sent my own email or texted anyone,” he said. “My wife, Jillie, often handles texting for me.”

Selleck humorously acknowledged his struggle with written communication, despite his book, You Never Know, hitting the shelves. “I have a certain luxury where I probably couldn’t survive otherwise,” he noted. “It’s ironic for someone promoting a book to say they have a hard time writing things down.”

In his memoir, Selleck reflects on his extensive career, from his early roles in small films and commercials to his iconic parts in Magnum P.I. and Friends, which he describes as nearly “accidental.” He admits to not having an innate passion for acting but rather sought steady work. “I didn’t rehabilitate myself or have a tragic life,” he said. “I’ve had my share of ups and downs, but I’ve been very fortunate.”

Selleck also discussed his long-running role on Blue Bloods, which will conclude with its fourteenth season this fall. He expressed surprise at the show’s longevity. “I always thought the show had great potential,” he said. “It’s character-driven, and as characters evolve, so do the stories. We’re not out of ideas yet.”

Co-star Donnie Wahlberg echoed Selleck’s sentiments, emphasizing the role of luck in achieving long-term success. “You need luck, a caring audience, and a great team,” Wahlberg said. “I couldn’t have imagined the show lasting this long. It’s been a remarkable journey.”

Selleck’s memoir, You Never Know: A Memoir, will be available on May 7.
