Tom Selleck Aims to Rescue ‘Blue Bloods’ Following CBS Cancellation

CBS Cancels Blue Bloods After 14 Seasons, Tom Selleck Still Hopes for a Revival

CBS has officially canceled Blue Bloods after a successful 14-season run, but series star Tom Selleck remains optimistic. In a recent interview, he expressed hope that the network will “come to their senses” and reconsider their decision regarding the beloved drama.

Blue Bloods chronicles the complex lives of the Reagan family, a multi-generational clan of police officers and public servants in New York. The series has been a consistent ratings powerhouse and fan favorite for nearly 15 years.

Tom Selleck’s Reaction to the Cancellation

Selleck, who has portrayed family patriarch Frank Reagan since the show premiered in 2010, emphasized the show’s strong performance. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he told CBS News. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back.” He firmly believes the series still has plenty of life left in it. “I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” he said. “We’re not sliding off down a cliff. We’re producing quality episodes and maintaining our audience.”

Details on the Cancellation

CBS announced the cancellation in November 2023, revealing plans for a two-part final season, with the concluding episodes set to air in December 2024.

Reasons Behind the Cancellation

Despite its status as one of CBS’s top-rated shows, Blue Bloods saw a slight decline in ratings from Season 13 to Season 14. The show’s production costs, attributed to its on-location filming in New York and the higher salaries of its long-standing cast members, likely contributed to the network’s decision to cancel.

Can Blue Bloods Be Revived?

Fans have rallied online to save the show, using the hashtag #SaveBlueBloods after each new episode. Co-stars, including Donnie Wahlberg, have also voiced their support for the campaign. However, CBS has yet to reverse its cancellation decision.

Update on the Cast of Reba

In other television news, the cast of Reba has seen various developments in their careers. Notably, Reba McEntire continues to thrive in music and acting, with a new NBC sitcom titled Happy’s Place set to premiere in fall 2024.
