“Tom Selleck Concerned About Affording 63-Acre Ranch After Blue Bloods Cancellation”

Tom Selleck is concerned about being able to maintain his 63-acre ranch once his long-running role on Blue Bloods concludes this winter.

The 79-year-old actor has portrayed the fictional New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on the CBS drama for the past 14 years. In a recent interview from his Ventura County, California ranch on CBS Sunday Morning, Selleck discussed his future.

“Hopefully, I’ll keep working enough to hold onto the place,” Selleck told CBS correspondent Tracy Smith.

Smith questioned if Selleck was genuinely worried about finances. “That’s always a concern,” Selleck replied. “If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Sure, but maybe not with a 63-acre ranch!”

When asked about his future plans, Selleck expressed a desire to continue working. “As an actor, you never lose – I don’t lose, anyway – that sense that every time I finish a job, it could be my last.”

Blue Bloods is scheduled to end in December with the second half of its 14th season, as confirmed by CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach last week. The decision to end the show has drawn criticism from some cast members, including Selleck, who even proposed reducing their salaries by 25% to keep the series going. “I hope CBS will reconsider,” Selleck said during the Sunday Morning interview. “We’re the third-highest scripted show on broadcast TV. We’re performing well and producing quality episodes. All the cast wants to continue, so it’s hard to understand why we’re ending.”

Selleck purchased the ranch, previously owned by Dean Martin, in 1988 after Magnum PI ended. The property was once a thriving avocado farm until a drought devastated its crops.
