“Tom Selleck Isn’t Ready to Bid Farewell to ‘Blue Bloods’ Just Yet”

Tom Selleck Reflects on ‘Blue Bloods’ as It Prepares to Conclude

With ‘Blue Bloods’ wrapping up with its 14th season, Tom Selleck is preparing to say goodbye to the long-running CBS drama. The final season will unfold in two parts, with the first half premiering in February and the second part later in the year. Though the series’ ending remains unwritten, it promises a memorable conclusion. Selleck expressed his deep gratitude to fans and the show’s team in a heartfelt statement.

“For the past 13 years, it has been an honor and a privilege to work on a show that not only honors the men and women who serve in New York City but also highlights the significance of family,” Selleck shared. “Working with such incredible actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew has been a dream come true. I’m thankful for being part of this remarkable group for over 275 episodes. My thanks to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their unwavering support, and to the fans who joined us for dinner every Friday night.”

As the series nears its end, Selleck discussed his feelings about the show’s conclusion.

How do you feel about ‘Blue Bloods’ ending?

Tom Selleck: CBS will discover that many viewers aren’t ready to say goodbye. The show is more popular than ever, and I believe interest will only grow this year. We certainly still have ideas to explore.

Are you ready to retire to your Ventura, California, ranch?

I’m not marking the days until I can move on to something else. I love the work. The hours can be tough because I’m older, but I’m not letting that stop me. I want to keep working for as long as they’ll have me.

Is Frank Reagan contemplating retirement?

Frank tends to pick fights as a way of expressing his desire for someone to take over his responsibilities and fire him. However, his sense of duty is so strong that he finds himself unable to let go.

What are you most proud of about ‘Blue Bloods’?

I’m proud of portraying a flawed yet strong father figure. On television, dads are often portrayed as inept. It’s not my goal to make a statement, but the show offers an example of a significant patriarch, which is becoming increasingly rare in today’s culture.

How crucial is the Reagan family dinner to the show’s success?

The family dinner is a fan favorite. When I first saw the eight-page dinner scene in Leonard Goldberg’s pilot script, I wondered if it would be cut. Leonard assured me it would be a central part of the show, and he was absolutely right.
