“Tom Selleck Might Have to Sell California Ranch if ‘Blue Bloods’ Ends”

The hit television show Blue Bloods is set to conclude this December, and Tom Selleck, who stars as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, has revealed that he might have to part with his beloved California ranch if he stops working.

In a 2020 interview with PEOPLE, Selleck expressed his deep affection for his 63-acre ranch, describing it as a vital part of his life. “My relationships and my ranch keep me sane,” he shared. “I do grunt work and I make the rounds. I like watching things grow. It’s a retreat.”

Selleck further elaborated on his situation during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, stating, “You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place.”

When asked by host Tracy Smith if stopping work could be a problem, Selleck admitted, “That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

The cancellation of Blue Bloods was announced last fall and confirmed last month. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach expressed gratitude to everyone involved with the show, noting, “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.”

Despite the official cancellation, Selleck remains hopeful that CBS might reconsider. “I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses. We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this—we aren’t sliding off down a cliff, we’re doing good shows and still holding our place,” he told CBS News.

Even if Blue Bloods ends as planned, Selleck is not considering retirement. “As an actor, you never lose — I don’t lose, anyway — that sense that every time I finish a job, it’s my last job,” he reflected. “I like the fact that there’s no excuses. You just go to work and you do the work. And I have a lot of reverence for what I call ‘the work,’ and I love it. And I’d like to keep doing it.”
