“Tom Selleck Moves to Tears in Emotional Finale of Hit Police Drama”

The CBS drama, which first premiered in 2010, centered on the fictional Reagan family in New York. Key characters included police officer Danny Reagan (Donnie) and Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan), all led by patriarch Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck).

In November, fans were left upset by the announcement that the beloved series would be concluding after more than a decade. Tom Selleck, known for his strong persona, openly criticized the decision.

During an appearance on the Today Show to promote the final episodes of season 14, Donnie shared a poignant moment from his last day on set. He was filming a scene with Marisa Ramirez (Maria Baez) when he spotted Tom Selleck watching from across the room. Donnie noted that Tom typically doesn’t appear in his scenes, making the moment even more significant.

He recalled, “Tom is a serious, focused man who doesn’t easily show vulnerability. When I looked over, I saw tears in his eyes.” This emotional encounter deeply affected Donnie, prompting him to reflect on the 14 years of the show and his own life journey.

“Watching this man on TV as a kid, in a household where we often worried about basic necessities, to now be working alongside him—it filled me with immense humility. I still get emotional thinking about it. It’s a feeling of gratitude, not sadness.”

Blue Bloods was officially canceled last November, with confirmation that the current season would be its last. Tom also expressed his heartbreak over the show’s conclusion, stating it would take him a long time to come to terms with the loss.
