“Tom Selleck on Blue Bloods’ Possible Cancellation and the Hilarious Chicken Incident During Reagan Family Dinner Scene”

Blue Bloods’ Future: Tom Selleck’s Push for a Season 15 and the Hilarious Chicken Incident on Set

Blue Bloods has been a fixture on CBS’ Friday night lineup for years, so the news of its potential cancellation came as a shock. Despite being a ratings powerhouse with stars like Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg, and a sizable budget, the show has still fallen among the canceled TV shows of 2024. Given its success, it’s no wonder the team is fighting to keep it going, and Tom Selleck’s recent comments indicate he’s not ready to say goodbye just yet.

Selleck’s Appeal for Blue Bloods’ Continuation

As Blue Bloods wraps up the first part of Season 14, with the final half slated for next fall, Selleck has been vocal about the show’s future. In a recent interview with Esquire, he expressed his determination to fight for the series:

“CBS will tell you it’s ending. I think they’re going to come to their senses. I certainly wish they would. I’m going to do whatever it takes. Tell your friends.”

CBS indeed announced the show’s end a few weeks ago, with network head Amy Reisenback stating, “We are going to end the show come December.” However, Selleck remains optimistic and committed, frequently advocating for the show’s continuation. He’s made it clear he’d love to return for a Season 15, citing Blue Bloods’ status as the third highest-rated show on network television and a consistent Friday night winner. Selleck believes CBS should reconsider their decision.

A Memorable Set Incident: Tom Selleck’s Chicken Frisbee

Aside from his advocacy for the show, Selleck also shared a humorous anecdote from the set. During a family dinner scene, Selleck had a memorable mishap:

“We have plastic forks and knives painted silver for the dinner scenes. I got a chicken cutlet one day and broke two forks in the middle of my close-up. I really got pissed. It was not my finest hour on Blue Bloods. I took that cutlet and threw it like a Frisbee across the room, which I have never heard the end of since.”

Filming these dinner scenes can be quite challenging, and while Selleck’s story provides a light-hearted glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics, it also highlights the effort the cast puts into making these moments authentic. These family dinners have become a hallmark of the show, contributing significantly to its longevity.

What’s Next for Blue Bloods?

As Blue Bloods goes on hiatus before the return of fall TV, fans are eagerly anticipating the mid-season finale of Season 14. In the meantime, Selleck is busy with his ranch and promoting his memoir, You Never Know: A Memoir. Given his dedication to the show and his belief in its continued potential, the hope for a renewed future feels quite relevant.
