“Tom Selleck Plans to Celebrate His 80th Birthday by Focusing on the Positive with Loved Ones”

Tom Selleck may have been taken aback by the end of his long-running show Blue Bloods, but as he approaches his 80th birthday on January 29, he’s choosing to focus on gratitude and celebration, surrounded by family and friends.

“He’s been through a lot in his life and feels incredibly lucky to be here to talk about it,” an exclusive source shares. “While he was understandably disappointed with Blue Bloods being canceled, Tom is determined to focus on the positive. He wants his 80th birthday to be a joyful occasion filled with smiles, laughter, and the people he loves, not dwelling on the negative.”

Plans are already underway for a big birthday bash at their farm, with his wife and daughter taking the lead. The celebration will include close friends, with a few familiar faces from the Blue Bloods cast, such as Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan, joining in to toast Tom’s health and maybe even share a lighthearted roast. “They’re like family to him,” the source adds.

The Magnum P.I. star and the rest of the Blue Bloods cast filmed their final scenes together on December 13, 2024, after 14 successful years on air. Since the show ended, Tom has spoken about the challenges of adjusting to life without his iconic role as Frank Reagan.

“The toughest part for me is that we had the Blue Bloods family and the actor’s family,” Tom told Parade in an interview just before the series finale aired. “They’re all my pals. I miss them. It’s going to take some time to get used to not seeing them every day.”

Tom also expressed his gratitude for being part of such a long-running series during an interview with Entertainment Weekly on December 14, 2024. “I’m grateful for how the writers allowed the characters to evolve and grow,” he said. “Fifteen years is a long time, and you change in so many ways. But I’m proud of how we went out, and it wasn’t because the show was running on empty. It was a spectacular end. I still don’t know why CBS decided to cancel it, but I’ll always be proud of the work we did.”

Though Blue Bloods has come to an end, Tom isn’t slowing down. He’s motivated to keep working in TV and film, and a source revealed that he’s more determined than ever to get back in shape. “Tom is serious about getting on a horse again—he doesn’t think that’s too much to hope for,” the insider shared. “Though he’s had some mobility issues, he’s working hard to overcome them. He’s lifting weights, practicing Tai Chi to improve his balance, and doing physiotherapy. He’s also paying attention to his diet and shedding some weight, which will make everything easier. Tom and his wife enjoy long walks around their farm every evening, and he’s been swimming as well. He’s taking a comprehensive approach to his health.”

As Tom prepares to turn 80, he’s embracing the future with optimism, health, and the support of those who matter most.
