“Tom Selleck Questions the Logic Behind ‘Blue Bloods’ Cancellation”

CBS recently announced its fall schedule, confirming that “Blue Bloods” will conclude after its 14th season. Initially canceled last year, the show was granted a final season to wrap up its story. This two-part final season will air its concluding episodes this fall, marking the end of the cherished police drama led by Tom Selleck.

In an interview with CBS News, Selleck expressed his disappointment over the cancellation and argued that the show’s strong performance and loyal fan base should have warranted its continuation. He stated:

“I still believe CBS will reconsider. We’re the third-highest scripted show on broadcast television. We consistently win our time slot, and all the cast members are eager to return. We aren’t losing momentum; we’re producing high-quality episodes and maintaining our viewership.”

“Blue Bloods” has been one of CBS’s most consistently watched shows, often outperforming competitors like “S.W.A.T.” and “Fire Country” on Friday nights. The series averages 5 million live viewers per episode, and with live+7 days data, it reaches over 9 million viewers. Despite its strong performance, the decision to cancel was influenced by cost concerns. The cast had even agreed to a significant pay cut—up to 25%—to keep the show running.

CBS President of Entertainment Amy Reisenbach confirmed the show’s end, emphasizing the importance of giving it a proper conclusion. She expressed gratitude to the cast and crew, noting:

“We want to thank everyone involved in ‘Blue Bloods.’ We will miss the family dinners and are committed to giving the show a fitting sendoff. While all shows eventually end, it’s crucial to refresh our schedule. The show will conclude in December.”

As one of the last family-centered police dramas on television, “Blue Bloods” leaves behind a significant legacy. Despite strong calls to keep the show going, no indications suggest a reversal of the cancellation decision at this time. However, given the precedent set by other shows, there’s always a possibility for change.

The first part of the 18-episode final season will wrap up on May 17, with the remaining eight episodes airing in December. Fans can catch up on previous episodes on Paramount+.
