Tom Selleck Reflects on Matthew Perry: A Tribute to His Talent on ‘Friends’
Tom Selleck fondly reminisced about his time with Matthew Perry on the set of Friends. He joined the series in Season 2 as Richard Burke, an ophthalmologist and love interest for Monica, played by Courteney Cox. In a recent interview with USA Today, Selleck reflected on his connection with Perry, particularly their conversations about family. Selleck had a long-standing friendship with Perry’s father, John Bennett Perry, which added a personal touch to their interactions on set.
“Everyone was incredibly welcoming,” Selleck recalled. “Every day, I’d see Matthew and ask him, ‘How’s your father?’ He would always smile, and we’d catch up. I got to know his dad when I was a young actor trying to make a name for myself. We crossed paths often in auditions and became good friends.”
Selleck also shared his enjoyment of filming the episode “The One Where Old Yeller Dies,” where Joey and Chandler, played by Matt LeBlanc and Perry, hilariously morph into his character Richard. Those moments on set remain some of his fondest memories of Perry and the Friends cast.
