Tom Selleck Reflects on the ‘Privilege’ of Blue Bloods Role as Final Season Premieres

As the 14th and final season of Blue Bloods premieres, star Tom Selleck looks back on the “past 13 years” with both gratitude and nostalgia.

Fans of the long-running CBS drama are experiencing a mix of emotions today, as the show’s final season airs following delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year.

Tom Selleck, the show’s beloved lead, expressed his reflections in a statement released in November, despite not being active on social media. At 79, the actor described his time on Blue Bloods as an “honor and privilege,” highlighting his appreciation for the “incredible actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew” he’s worked with over more than 275 episodes.

Selleck also extended his thanks to CBS for their “steadfast support,” though he made no secret of his disappointment with the network, suggesting that many fans were not ready to say goodbye. “The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [ratings] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas,” he added.

In his heartfelt message, Tom also expressed gratitude to viewers who joined him every Friday night. Despite the cancellation, Blue Bloods remained a top performer in its primetime slot, attracting an impressive 9.54 million viewers in the past year.

The announcement of the show’s end sparked immediate reactions from fans on X, many of whom expressed their shock and sadness, with some even voicing their frustration towards CBS, suggesting, “Hope CBS tanks for doing this to our show.”
