“Tom Selleck Remains Optimistic That CBS Will Reconsider ‘Blue Bloods’ Cancellation”

Tom Selleck is still hopeful that CBS will reverse its decision to cancel Blue Bloods.

“I’m holding out hope that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck, 79, said in a CBS News interview on May 5. “We’re the third highest scripted show on broadcast TV. We’re leading the ratings on our nights. The entire cast wants to return, and I can assure you, we’re not faltering. We’re delivering a strong show and maintaining our position.”

Selleck, who has played Commissioner Frank Reagan since the show’s debut in 2010, stars alongside Donnie Wahlberg (Detective Danny Reagan), Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan), Will Estes (Sergeant Jamie Reagan), and Len Cariou (Henry Reagan).

Following CBS’s announcement in November 2023 to end Blue Bloods after 14 seasons, Selleck expressed his gratitude for the series in a statement.

“It’s been an honor to work on a show that not only honors those who protect and serve New York City but also highlights the importance of family,” Selleck told The Hollywood Reporter. “Working with this remarkable team of actors, writers, producers, and crew has been a dream. I’m grateful to have been part of over 275 episodes. A heartfelt thank you to CBS Studios, the CBS network, and our loyal fans who’ve joined us every Friday night.”

Despite the cast’s and fans’ efforts to save the show, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach confirmed the cancellation earlier this month.

“We cherish this cast and their dedication,” Reisenbach said, according to Deadline. “However, all shows must eventually end. It’s crucial for us to refresh our schedule, so Blue Bloods will conclude in December.”

CBS has split the final season into two parts, with the first 10 episodes airing in February. The remaining eight episodes were filmed in November 2023 following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strike. The series finale is set to air in fall 2024.

As for his future plans, Selleck has no intentions of retiring. “As an actor, I always approach each role as if it could be my last,” he remarked. “I embrace the work with respect and enthusiasm, and I’m eager to continue working.”
