Tom Selleck Responds to CBS Over ‘Blue Bloods’ Cancellation: ‘The Entire Cast is Ready to Return’

Tom Selleck is voicing his frustrations with CBS over the network’s decision to cancel Blue Bloods. In an interview with CBS News, Selleck was asked if the show is officially wrapping up after 14 successful years. He responded, “Well, that’s a good question. I hope CBS will reconsider their decision. We’re the third-highest rated scripted show on broadcast television. We’re performing well and the entire cast is eager to return. We’re still delivering great episodes and maintaining our place in the ratings. So, I’m not sure what the future holds—perhaps you have an answer.”

Selleck has previously addressed the show’s cancellation. “CBS will find that a lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye,” he remarked. “The show is more popular than ever, and I believe interest will continue to grow this year. We still have plenty of ideas left.”

At 79, Selleck shows no signs of retiring soon. “I’m not counting the days until I can move on to something else,” he said. “I love my work. While the hours can be tougher as I get older, I’m committed to working as long as they’ll have me.”

With the show set to conclude this fall, Selleck isn’t the only one feeling the impact of the cancellation. On The Drew Barrymore Show in April, co-stars Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg shared their disappointment. Moynahan, 52, said, “Everyone is really upset and sad, but also feels a sense of fulfillment.” Wahlberg, 54, added, “I’m definitely more upset and sad.”

Moynahan elaborated, “It’s tough to say goodbye to the people behind the characters. We’ve built a close-knit family on set over these 14 years, experiencing weddings, births, and other life events together.”

While CBS announced the show’s cancellation in November, they have yet to provide detailed reasons. At a recent press conference, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach addressed the cast’s pleas, saying, “We love this cast and their passion for the show. However, all shows must come to an end, and it’s important for us to refresh our schedule. Blue Bloods will conclude in December.”
