“Tom Selleck Reveals Which Celebrities Left Him Starstruck”

Tom Selleck, renowned for his role in “Magnum P.I.,” shared that while he doesn’t often get starstruck, a few notable encounters have left him in awe throughout his nearly 60-year career.

In his memoir, You Never Know, Selleck reflects on his Hollywood experiences. He revealed to Town and Country that Mae West was one of the few celebrities to leave him starstruck. Although he held a deep respect for James Garner’s work, he wasn’t starstruck by him.

Selleck admitted, “Not too often,” explaining that exceptional actors can quickly dispel any feelings of starstruckness. However, he did have a memorable experience when he met Princess Diana. At a 1985 White House state dinner, Selleck was among the few actors present, alongside Clint Eastwood and John Travolta.

During the evening, as the guests moved to the East Room for music and dancing, President Reagan and Princess Diana danced together, followed by Charles and Nancy Reagan. Then, John Travolta and Diana took to the dance floor again. A woman approached Selleck and insisted he step in to replace Travolta to avoid any rumors, despite Selleck’s reluctance.

“I was not about to cut in on John Travolta!” Selleck wrote, though he eventually agreed to dance with Diana. He humorously noted that he had skipped cotillion as a child, which left him only able to perform a basic box step and a dip. Unsure of how to handle a dance with the princess, Selleck chose to simply converse with her.

Despite his dancing skills being limited, he found Diana to be gracious and skilled in making others feel at ease. Selleck described the encounter as “certainly memorable,” underscoring the lasting impact of meeting someone as esteemed as Princess Diana.
