Tom Selleck Urges CBS to Reconsider ‘Blue Bloods’ Cancellation

Even though CBS has confirmed the final air dates for Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck remains hopeful for a reversal of the show’s cancellation. Selleck, who has played New York City Police Commissioner Francis Xavier “Frank” Reagan since the series began, has openly expressed his reluctance to part with the Reagan family. He recently told CBS News that he’s holding out for CBS to reconsider, hoping for a turnaround similar to what happened with S.W.A.T..

“I continue to believe that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck said. “We’re the third-highest scripted show on broadcast television, consistently winning our time slot. The entire cast is eager to return, and the show is still performing well. So, I’m optimistic.”

Following the announcement that Blue Bloods will conclude with Season 14, both fans and cast members have been rallying for the show’s continuation. Fans have launched petitions to save the series, and Donnie Wahlberg mentioned he has heard “rumblings” about a possible extension. Given CBS’s recent decision to save S.W.A.T. from cancellation for the second time, hopes are high for a similar fate for Blue Bloods. The show has been a reliable Friday night fixture and ranked as the No. 6 broadcast series for the 2023-24 season.

However, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach has indicated that the network is firm on ending the show. In a press conference, Reisenbach stated, “All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.” Although there is always a possibility of change, it seems the network is resolute in their decision.

While it’s disheartening for fans that Blue Bloods is likely to conclude in December, the final season will provide closure for its storylines. Fans will want to stay tuned for the last episodes, which will air as part of CBS’s 2024 fall schedule.
