Tom Selleck’s Dream May Come True with ‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff
The future of Blue Bloods appears to be more promising than anticipated.
During Paramount’s annual stockholders meeting on Tuesday, Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins hinted that a new series related to Blue Bloods might be on the horizon. Robbins mentioned, “New franchise extensions are coming for ‘Dexter,’ ‘Billions,’ and ‘Blue Bloods.’” While spinoffs for Billions (“Millions”) and Dexter (“Dexter: Origins”) have already been announced, no official spinoff for Blue Bloods has been confirmed yet.
The show, which premiered in 2010 and stars Tom Selleck as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, is set to conclude with Season 14 this fall. Selleck, who is 79, has expressed his desire for the series to continue, noting its ongoing popularity.
In a recent statement, Selleck mentioned, “CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it. The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [the numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas. I’m not counting the days so I can do something else.”
Selleck has also shared his concerns about financial implications if the show ends, revealing that he may need to sell his Ventura County, California ranch if his income from the show stops. “You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place,” he told “CBS Sunday Morning” in May. When asked if not working would be a concern, he responded, “That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”
Selleck remains hopeful that CBS will reconsider its decision to end the series. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”
