“Tom Selleck’s End of Blue Bloods Opens Door to Conclude His Other Major TV Franchise”

With the conclusion of Blue Bloods, Tom Selleck is poised to revisit another beloved TV role after a decade-long hiatus. During the making of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Selleck was almost cast as Indiana Jones, but his commitment to the Magnum P.I. pilot led him to withdraw. Ultimately, it was Magnum P.I. that launched Selleck’s career, making him a household name and paving the way for his movie roles, including Three Men and a Baby.

Despite some successful films, Selleck is best known for his TV roles, particularly as Thomas Magnum and Frank Reagan. Blue Bloods, which began in 2010 and has run for 14 seasons, has occupied much of Selleck’s time, with the show’s extensive episode count leaving little room for other projects. As a result, Selleck hasn’t been seen in a movie since 2010’s Killers and has been dedicated almost exclusively to his role as Frank Reagan.

The end of Blue Bloods opens up the opportunity for Selleck to return to the character of Jesse Stone. His last appearance as Stone was in the 2015 TV movie Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise. This film was the ninth in the series, which follows the troubled chief of police in a small Massachusetts town. Based on the novels by Robert B. Parker, the series offers Selleck one of his most nuanced roles.

The initial eight Jesse Stone films aired on CBS from 2005 to 2012 before the network shifted focus. The ninth film aired on Hallmark in 2015, and Selleck had hoped to continue the series. In 2017, he mentioned that while a deal with Hallmark was in place for a tenth film, other commitments were delaying progress.

Now that Blue Bloods is ending, Selleck has the perfect opportunity to revive the Jesse Stone franchise. Given the series’ dedicated fanbase, finding a platform for the next installment should be feasible, and it would be great to see Jesse Stone’s story continue after such a long break.
