“Tom Selleck’s Hopes for CBS to Reconsider Canceling Blue Bloods: What’s Behind His Optimism?”

As we reach the midpoint of the summer TV season, the fall TV lineup is just around the corner. For fans of Blue Bloods, this means eagerly anticipating the final 10 episodes of the series. The long-running drama was one of the major TV cancellations of 2024, and while Season 14 has wrapped production, Tom Selleck remains hopeful CBS might reconsider.

Selleck, currently promoting his new memoir You Never Know: A Memoir—a title that seems to echo his aspirations for the show—recently shared his thoughts on its future. Despite his active promotional work, the 79-year-old actor emphasized that he’s not retiring, and he’s optimistic CBS might recognize the show’s enduring success. He told Country Living:

“My hope is CBS wakes up to the fact that we’re still winning the night on Friday and performing well on Paramount Plus.”

Selleck contends that while CBS views Blue Bloods as ending with a split Season 14, he believes this split should be seen as an extension of the show’s run. According to him, “We’re going to do a 15th season. We’ll have 10 shows for Season 14, and then eight more in the fall for what should be considered our 15th season.”

He’s not wrong about Blue Bloods’ performance; it continues to dominate its Friday night timeslot and has a strong presence on Paramount Plus. Typically, a show airing with a split season is treated as a new season by network standards, though there are exceptions, like Bridgerton.

However, it seems likely that the series will conclude by next winter, regardless of Selleck’s efforts to keep it going. Fans should stay tuned for potential future developments, as there are hints that CBS might be exploring ways to continue the Blue Bloods franchise. With vague details about what’s in store, there’s a chance that Frank Reagan or other beloved characters could return in some form.
