Tom Selleck, known for his role as Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on the hit TV show Blue Bloods, has openly expressed his dissatisfaction with CBS’s decision to cancel the beloved series. Despite his vocal criticism, it appears Selleck is moving on from the show. Recently, he was spotted in Thousand Oaks, California, and his appearance was strikingly different from his well-known TV persona.
Tom Selleck’s New Look
For much of the past decade, Tom Selleck was synonymous with his Blue Bloods character, sporting a police uniform and his trademark thick mustache. However, in a recent sighting, the 79-year-old actor was seen in a casual outfit that starkly contrasts his former on-screen image. Selleck was photographed wearing a loose-fitting black T-shirt, a navy blue button-down shirt, and black athletic shorts, complemented by black socks and sneakers. His look was completed with a bushy gray beard and unkempt gray hair—far removed from his polished, uniformed role as Frank Reagan and even his iconic Thomas Magnum look from Magnum P.I.
The photo also captured Selleck enjoying a relaxed meal at McDonald’s, indicating that he was simply taking it easy and had no need for his usual on-screen attire.
CBS’s Decision to Cancel Blue Bloods
Tom Selleck has been vocal about his frustration with CBS’s decision to cancel Blue Bloods, despite the show’s high ratings. As one of the network’s top-performing series on Friday nights, its cancellation came as a shock to many, including Selleck. CBS has expressed a desire to refresh its programming lineup, opting to prioritize newer shows like Fire Country, which has gained significant popularity. This strategy also led to the end of other series, including CSI: Vegas and NCIS: Hawai’i, as CBS seeks to make way for new content.
In addition to replacing Blue Bloods, CBS introduced Sheriff Country, a spinoff of Fire Country, starring Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox. This move is part of the network’s broader strategy to capitalize on new franchises and shift focus away from existing ones.
Selleck remains perplexed by the network’s decision. “We’re the third-highest show in all of broadcast,” he noted. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. I can tell you this: We aren’t sliding off a cliff; we’re doing good shows. And still holding our place. So I dunno. You tell me.”
