TV Icon Transforms: A Bold Departure from Their Signature Style

Tom Selleck, known for his iconic Hollywood look, was nearly unrecognizable during a rare public appearance without his trademark moustache. Recently spotted in the San Fernando Valley, the Magnum P.I. star sported a full beard as he ran errands and picked up a meal from McDonald’s.

At 78, Selleck kept a low profile, wearing a casual dark blue T-shirt while navigating the streets near his Sherman Oaks home. His last public sighting was over a year ago, when he was seen driving his silver pickup truck in the neighborhood.

In addition to his legendary role in Magnum P.I., Selleck has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including Three Men and a Baby, Hook, Friends, and Las Vegas. Currently, he stars as Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods, though the show is on hiatus due to the recent writers’ strike. Fortunately, the Writers Guild of America reached a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers at the end of September, allowing productions to resume.

Amidst his quieter life, Selleck is reportedly busy working on a memoir that will delve into his extensive career and personal life “away from the cameras.” He has been married to actress Jillie Mack for 36 years, and they have a 34-year-old daughter, Hannah. Selleck also has a 57-year-old son, Kevin, from his previous marriage to Jacqueline Ray.

Reflecting on his journey, Selleck shared a glimpse into his personal life when he received a Paley Award in 2020. “From a kid who ‘watched’ the radio to a young man who languished on the bench of the USC basketball team, it’s a long way from there to here,” he remarked. “To be honest, I’m not sure where ‘getting here’ lands you, so I’m grateful for the Paley Center’s invitation to celebrate ‘getting here,’ wherever that may be.”
