“Wes Bentley Confirms Kevin Costner Yellowstone Rumors After Explosive Report”

Despite Yellowstone Officially Ending, Off-Screen Drama Still Steals the Spotlight

Even though Yellowstone has come to an end, the off-screen drama is far from over. Just a week after a major exposé revealed behind-the-scenes tensions during the show’s final stretch, new details have surfaced—this time pointing to a reported power struggle between lead actor Kevin Costner and creator Taylor Sheridan. Now, cast member Wes Bentley is speaking out, offering insight into what really went on during production.

Multiple insiders have stepped forward, offering new perspectives on the creative clashes that reportedly intensified as Yellowstone evolved from a gritty cable drama into a pop culture phenomenon. As Sheridan’s role as the show’s sole writer became more central—and as the Yellowstone universe expanded with spin-offs like 1883, 1923, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves—his dynamic with Costner reportedly began to change. Sources claim that Costner, once at the center of the ensemble, began to feel increasingly isolated, while Sheridan grew into the franchise’s creative anchor.

Wes Bentley Breaks Silence on Kevin Costner Clash

Among the revelations stirring the most buzz is an alleged on-set disagreement between Kevin Costner and Wes Bentley, who portrayed Jamie Dutton. A spokesperson for Bentley confirmed that the actors did have a “work-related argument during an emotionally and physically intense scene,” but emphasized that the matter was “discussed and resolved” shortly after.

Despite the brief conflict, Bentley was widely regarded as one of the most easygoing and professional members of the cast. “By all accounts, he was great to work with and kind to people on set. I think he was happy to be there, for the most part,” one insider noted.

When Costner officially exited the series midway through Season 5 to focus on his own Western saga, Horizon: An American Saga, speculation intensified about friction between him and Sheridan. However, Sheridan has repeatedly downplayed any lasting conflict.

“My opinion of Kevin as an actor hasn’t changed,” Sheridan said in an interview. “His portrayal of John Dutton is iconic and powerful … and any issues we had were always resolved over the phone.”

Sheridan also dismissed a widely circulated rumor that he once told Costner to “stick to acting.” “That conversation never happened,” he insisted. “There was a moment during Season 2 when Kevin was frustrated and felt the character wasn’t going in the right direction. And honestly, I don’t think he was wrong. By Season 3, we realigned with his vision.”
