“Where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Made Their Surprise Appearance: Inside Kevin Costner’s $145 Million Estate”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Surprise Appearance at Kevin Costner’s $145 Million Estate
On September 20, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made an unexpected joint appearance at the One805LIVE! charity concert, hosted at Kevin Costner’s luxurious oceanside estate in Carpinteria, California. Marking their first public outing together in over five months, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the star-studded crowd to support a cause close to home: raising funds for essential equipment and mental wellness programs for Santa Barbara County’s first responders.
Costner’s clifftop estate, valued at $145 million, was transformed into an intimate concert venue for the evening. The exclusive event featured performances by country legend Trisha Yearwood, along with sets by Good Charlotte, The Fray, and Alan Parsons. Prince Harry took the stage to present the Heart of the Community Award to Santa Barbara County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig, commending the department’s leadership in addressing the stigma around mental health. Meghan later joined him on stage, and the couple spent the evening mingling with high-profile guests including Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shriver, and Rob Lowe, who were also honored during the event.
Inside Costner’s Coastal Retreat
Set atop the bluffs of Carpinteria, Costner’s stunning estate spans 1.4 acres and includes a main residence along with two guesthouses—all offering sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. Costner first acquired the property in 1988 and significantly expanded it over the years.
In 2006, while out for a jog, Costner noticed a for-sale sign and impulsively purchased an adjacent 17.25-acre parcel for $28.5 million. Though he sold off seven acres the following year, the remaining land—including a small home and a former polo field he converted into a baseball diamond—became part of his private retreat. The estate gained additional media attention during Costner’s divorce from Christine Baumgartner, when she temporarily moved into one of the smaller houses on the property after a court ordered her to vacate the main residence.
The compound, which offers rare private beach access and unparalleled ocean vistas, briefly hit the market in 2017 when Costner listed part of it at 2825 Padaro Lane for $60 million. He later withdrew the listing, opting to retain the property. In 2023, the estate returned to headlines when Costner mortgaged it to help fund his ambitious four-part Western film series, Horizon: An American Saga.
Today, the entire estate is estimated to be worth around $145 million—an iconic property that continues to serve as both a personal retreat and a platform for community impact.
