“Why Tom Selleck Believes CBS Has Mixed Feelings About Ending ‘Blue Bloods'”

Tom Selleck isn’t ready to bid farewell to Blue Bloods, and it seems CBS might feel the same way. The beloved police procedural, which first aired in September 2010, is set to conclude after 14 successful seasons in fall 2024. However, the show’s ending might not be as set in stone as it appears.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Selleck, who plays police commissioner Frank Reagan and serves as an executive producer, expressed his reluctance to let go. “CBS will find that a lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” Selleck remarked, indicating that there are still plenty of ideas left for the show. Despite being 79 years old, Selleck shows no signs of slowing down. “I’m not counting the days until I can do something else,” he said. “I love the work. The hours can be tough, but I want to work as long as they’ll have me.”

With the series finale approaching, the exact ending remains undecided. Executive producer Kevin Wade shared with USA Today that the writers have yet to finalize a satisfying conclusion for the show. “We need to deliver 18 good episodes and figure out a fitting and emotional final episode,” Wade noted. However, the finale might not be a drawn-out farewell. “Whatever happens, it’s not going to be a whole season of endless soap operas winding down,” Selleck assured.

Selleck remains skeptical about the definitive end of the series. “They say it’s an eight-episode wind-down, and I say, ‘We’ll see,'” he joked with USA Today. “I’ll do whatever is best for the situation. But I love this show, and I think CBS might end up being very conflicted about their current plans.”

Selleck’s forthcoming memoir, titled You Never Know and set to release on May 7, may hold further clues. The title itself suggests that uncertainties—about both his career and Blue Bloods—remain. Only time will tell what the future holds for the show and its dedicated fans.
