“Tom Selleck Unrecognizable in Rare Outing as Magnum P.I. Star”
Fans were surprised to see Tom Selleck sporting a different look, temporarily hiding his signature handlebar mustache. The 78-year-old actor was seen in a casual navy blue t-shirt and shorts, sporting a salt-and-pepper beard and short haircut. This sighting comes during his break from the hit show Blue Bloods, where he has portrayed NYPD Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since 2010. Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, scripted productions have been on hold since July.
This rare appearance follows a year-long hiatus from the public eye. Recently, Tom celebrated his 35th wedding anniversary with actress Jillie Mack, 65, whom he married in 1987; they have one daughter, Hannah, who is now 34. Tom’s first marriage was to actress Jaqueline Ray from 1971 to 1982, with whom he adopted a son, Kevin, who is 57 and was formerly the drummer for the band Tonic.
Tom and Jillie live on a 60-acre avocado ranch in Hidden Valley, previously owned by Dean Martin. In a 2012 interview with People, Tom shared his fondness for outdoor work, stating, “I hate going to the gym, so sweating outdoors sure beats sitting on a stationary bike staring at my navel.” Over his nearly sixty-year career, Tom has taken on numerous iconic roles, from private investigator Thomas Magnum in Magnum P.I. to memorable appearances in Three Men and a Baby and Friends, where he played Dr. Richard Burke.
