‘Yellowstone’ Teases Future Episodes Without Kevin Costner

Just when it seemed like “Yellowstone” might be nearing its end with the upcoming second half of Season 5, rumors suggest a possible Season 6. Entertainment industry sources indicate that stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are in talks about a new season.

In the meantime, the first trailer for the final Season 5 episodes has been released. As fans know, Kevin Costner has confirmed he won’t be returning for these final episodes, which are set to air starting November 10 on the Paramount Network. Costner’s departure is reportedly due to his focus on his passion project, “Horizon: An American Saga.”

The teaser is tantalizingly brief and reveals little. The series, which centers around John Dutton (Costner) and his struggles over control of his Montana ranch, opens with a voiceover from Costner’s character: “Legacy — if you build something worth having, someone’s going to try and take it.” Quick shots include ranch foreman Rip Wheeler (Hauser), and the Dutton children, Kayce (Luke Grimes), Beth (Reilly), and Jamie (Wes Bentley).

The Season 5 midseason finale, aired in January 2023, left tensions high, with Jamie and Beth vowing revenge on each other. The trailer hints that their animosity persists, with Jamie stating, “You destroy me, you destroy yourself,” and Beth responding, “Unlike you, I keep my promises.”

The trailer doesn’t clarify John Dutton’s absence, so viewers will have to wait to see how the show addresses Costner’s departure.

While there’s no official confirmation about the continuation of “Yellowstone,” the franchise is expanding. Two prequel series, “1883” and “1923,” have already been released, and a new modern spinoff titled “The Madison” has been announced. This upcoming series, featuring Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams, and Matthew Fox, will focus on a New York City family relocating to the Madison River Valley in central Montana, continuing the universe created by Taylor Sheridan.
