“Exploring Kevin Costner’s Real Estate: A Look at the Homes of Hollywood’s A-List Star”

Inside Kevin Costner’s Impressive Real Estate Portfolio

Kevin Costner’s real estate holdings reflect his status as one of Hollywood’s top earners. Best known for his role as John Dutton in the hit series Yellowstone, Costner earns an impressive $1.3 million per episode, solidifying his place among television’s highest-paid actors. His homes have always piqued the interest of fans, especially following the controversies surrounding his Carpinteria, California, property after his divorce from Christine Baumgartner. In a recent interview with Deadline, Costner revealed he mortgaged his 10-acre Santa Barbara estate to finance his film Horizon: An American Saga, acknowledging the risks involved but emphasizing his commitment to his creative vision.

Here’s a closer look at some of Costner’s notable properties:

Carpinteria Beachside Compound

In 1988, Costner purchased a sprawling compound in Carpinteria, California, valued today at approximately $145 million. This 1.4-acre estate features multiple structures, including a main house and two additional residences, all perched on a bluff with stunning ocean views. After Costner’s divorce from his first wife, Cindy Silva, in 1994, he retained ownership of the property. More recently, it became a focal point during his split from Baumgartner, who initially refused to vacate. Eventually, she agreed to move to a rental property, allowing Costner to keep his beloved compound.

La Cañada Flintridge Home

Costner and Silva bought a Mediterranean-style villa in La Cañada Flintridge in 1989, moving in two years later. The property featured a 6,754-square-foot main house, a separate structure with a wine cellar and aquarium, and expansive grounds. After a decade, they sold it in 1999 for $2.69 million.

Midnight Star Casino and Restaurant

Though not a residence, Costner owned the Midnight Star Casino and Restaurant in Deadwood, South Dakota. He opened the venue in 1991 after discovering the area while scouting for Dances with Wolves. The casino featured elegant design elements and two restaurants, but Costner closed it in 2017, and it was sold in 2020.

Spanish-Style LA Residence

After his divorce from Silva, Costner purchased a Spanish hacienda in Los Angeles in 1995 for nearly $3 million. This luxurious home boasted about 9,000 square feet, five bedrooms, a gym, a wine cellar, and outdoor amenities like a tennis court and pool. Costner bought the property from Richard Dreyfuss and sold it to Ryan Seacrest in 2006 for $11.5 million.

Dunbar Ranch in Aspen

In 2000, Costner invested in a 160-acre ranch in Aspen, dubbed Dunbar Ranch after his Dances with Wolves character. The main house includes 12 bedrooms and eight bathrooms within nearly 6,000 square feet. The property offers stunning mountain views, a lake, and numerous recreational facilities. Costner typically rents the ranch during the winter months, earning up to $250,000 per week.

Second Santa Barbara Residence

In 2006, while jogging, Costner spotted a property for sale in Santa Barbara and purchased it for $28.5 million. This 17.25-acre estate features beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Barbara mountains, with beach access and horseback riding trails. The modest 1942 home on the lot has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and although Costner initially planned to expand, he later mortgaged the property to fund Horizon: An American Saga. He listed the estate for $60 million in 2017 but ultimately took it off the market and continues to own it.

These properties reflect not only Costner’s significant wealth but also his deep connection to the places he calls home.
