“Tom Selleck Stuns on the Red Carpet with a Fresh New Look”
Tom Selleck may feel “frustrated” about the cancellation of Blue Bloods, but he’s keeping a positive attitude. The 79-year-old actor joined his castmates at PaleyFest in New York, showcasing his new look on the red carpet after saying goodbye to his iconic mustache. He posed happily for photos with co-stars Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Marisa Ramirez, Vanessa Ray, and Len Cariou as they gathered at The Paley Museum for an advanced screening of one of the show’s final episodes, followed by a discussion with the cast and creative team.
Known for his signature mustache and styled hair, Tom has recently debuted a full beard and longer gray hair. His mustache has become a trademark over the years, although he did shave it off for earlier roles in his career. Interestingly, when he first took on the role of Police Commissioner Frank Reagan in Blue Bloods, he proposed going clean-shaven. “I didn’t think they could have mustaches in that role,” he shared with People. However, CBS insisted he keep it, and the mustache became part of his character’s identity.
Reflecting on the show’s cancellation after 14 successful seasons, Tom expressed his frustration, noting that the NYPD drama’s success was “always taken for granted.” In an interview with TV Insider, he stated, “I’m kind of frustrated… During those last eight shows, I wanted to focus on our continued success, not the ending.” He highlighted the show’s impressive ratings, ranking #9 among the Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024, and noted that without football shows, they were #6.
Despite his disappointment, Tom remains optimistic. “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy,” he remarked. “If you told a network that a show could dominate Friday nights for 15 years, it would be hard to believe.” He emphasized that sorting through his feelings about the cancellation will take time, reflecting on how strange it was to realize there wouldn’t be a Monday to prepare for after filming the final episode.
In November 2023, CBS announced the cancellation of Blue Bloods, concluding the series with its 14th season, which consisted of 18 episodes divided into two parts.
