“Kevin Costner’s Shocking ‘Yellowstone’ Return – But Not in the Way You Expect”
Kevin Costner, famous for portraying John Dutton in Yellowstone, is set to make a return to the western-themed world with a new project—though not in the way many might expect. After leaving Yellowstone midway through its fifth season, which concluded in 2024, Costner has shifted his focus to his Western franchise, Horizon.
His new endeavor, a three-part docuseries titled In Yellowstone to Yosemite, will premiere on Fox Nation in February 2025. While he won’t be returning to his iconic role as a ranch owner, the series will still take viewers on a journey through some of America’s most significant national parks.
Part of Fox Nation’s America 250 campaign, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States, the series will explore the history of the American West, specifically focusing on the 1903 Yosemite expedition led by President Theodore Roosevelt and naturalist John Muir. It will also delve into Yosemite’s Indigenous heritage and its vital role in the creation of the National Park system. The series will highlight how the Roosevelt-Muir expedition led to the preservation of 230 million acres of land.
Costner, who also serves as an executive producer through his studio Territory Films, is excited to share this historical story, describing it as “stranger than fiction” and “legitimately changing the world for the good.”
This new project marks nearly three years since Costner’s last docuseries for Fox Nation, Yellowstone: One-Fifty. For fans who are eager to see more of his work, the second installment of Horizon: An American Saga is set for a theatrical release later this year. While Costner’s time with the Yellowstone franchise has ended, the saga continues, with the prequel 1923 and a new spin-off featuring Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) set to debut in February.
