New Biography Reveals Wild Private Lives of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson

A new book paints a damning portrait of Britain’s Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, depicting the former couple as entitled, indiscreet, and reckless in both public and private life.

In Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, author Andrew Lownie explores the turbulent lives of the Duke and Duchess of York, characterizing them as selfish, sexually driven, and financially irresponsible. According to Lownie, both Andrew and Sarah were often rude to staff, demanded the finest accommodations, and indulged in luxury—despite lacking the means to pay for their extravagant tastes.

The book alleges that the pair maintained an “open marriage” before their separation in 1992 and subsequent divorce in 1998. Sarah, described early on as a “bubbly young redhead” and a breath of fresh air when she married Andrew in 1986, quickly developed a reputation for exploiting her royal status. Lownie writes that she partied excessively, pursued lovers, and was indiscreet in both word and action.

One of her most infamous scandals came just five months after her separation from Andrew. In 1992, photos emerged of her sunbathing topless in St. Tropez, with American businessman John Bryan seen kissing and sucking her toes—an incident that sparked tabloid frenzy and scandalized the royal family.

The book also details Sarah’s alleged romantic pursuits of several high-profile men, including John F. Kennedy Jr., Kevin Costner, and Tiger Woods—none of whom reciprocated her interest.

At some point in the early 1990s, Sarah traveled to New York City and asked her staff to determine whether JFK Jr. was in town. Upon learning he was, she invited him to drinks and dinner at her hotel. Kennedy Jr. initially accepted, but backed out after learning that Sarah was aware of his relationship with actress Daryl Hannah. Despite this, Sarah reportedly had her staff watch Kennedy’s apartment overnight to confirm whether he truly had a prior engagement.

She remained fixated on the late president’s son, especially after hearing that her sister-in-law, Princess Diana, had spent time with him privately during a Christmas visit to New York in 1995. “He’s mine,” Sarah is quoted as saying. “Why can’t she just leave him alone?” According to a close friend, Sarah would obsessively talk about JFK Jr. for hours, even though they had never met. “It was like a schoolgirl crush,” the friend said.

Following her failed attempts to meet Kennedy Jr., Sarah reportedly turned her attention to actor Kevin Costner, who had recently divorced. Though it’s unclear whether the two ever met in person, Sarah allegedly tried to woo the Bodyguard star with a series of suggestive phone calls. Costner, unimpressed, is said to have told friends: “She’s a woman crying out for love.”

Her final known target, according to Lownie, was a young Tiger Woods. Sarah reportedly told journalist Piers Morgan she was “in love” with the golf phenom and flew more than 1,500 miles just to see him play. “He’s so gorgeous,” she gushed, before asking Morgan whether he thought she had a chance. When he warned that Woods might not have time for royal romance, she replied, “Well, I’m going to follow him around the course for a bit and see how I get on.” Morgan wryly added: “Poor old Tiger isn’t going to know what’s hit him.”
