Tom Selleck Could Return as Frank Reagan? ‘Boston Blue’ Stars Say the Door Is Still Open

Sonequa Martin-Green has revealed that the team behind Boston Blue continues to invite Tom Selleck to appear on the spinoff series, and she hopes he will eventually say yes. Could it finally happen in Boston Blue Season 2?

Season 1 of Boston Blue featured appearances from four stars of Blue Bloods, including Bridget Moynahan as Erin Reagan, Marisa Ramirez as Detective Maria Baez, Len Cariou as Henry Reagan, and Will Hochman as Joe Hill. Hochman appeared in the May 22 season finale to help Martin-Green’s character Lena, who was struggling with discovering new family members later in life — a storyline similar to Joe’s journey in Blue Bloods. Earlier in the season, viewers also learned about Jamie and Eddie’s baby.

Ramirez is set to return as Baez in Boston Blue Season 2, which premieres this fall on CBS. The creators of the series have previously made it clear that every Blue Bloods cast member is welcome to appear on the Danny Reagan spinoff starring Donnie Wahlberg.

Following the finale, Martin-Green admitted that a cameo from Selleck remains high on everyone’s wish list. “We’ve been talking about Mr. Selleck for a long time,” she told Woman’s World. “He’s always being invited, and as Donnie always says, the door is open. We would love to have him on the show, and we want to make sure the story is exactly right because Tom cares deeply about strong storytelling — as he should.”

She also added, “I want everyone from Blue Bloods to appear on this show, but it would be especially exciting to see Tom Selleck.”

Martin-Green said the Boston Blue team feels grateful to the original Blue Bloods cast, explaining that the new series is “standing on the foundation they built.”
