Kevin Costner’s Western Faces New Setback Amid ‘Yellowstone’ Star’s Ongoing Challenges

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga was meant to be his legacy—a sprawling four-part Western that he co-wrote, directed, and partly financed himself. But what started as a passion project now appears to be falling apart amid multiple setbacks. Recently, Costner’s production company, Horizon Series, faced another legal hurdle. United Costume Corporation filed a breach of contract lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming the company hasn’t paid over $340,000 for costume rentals used in Chapters 1 and 2 of the series. The unpaid invoices include one from 2022 for about $58,000 and another from 2023 for roughly $285,000, both now accruing interest.

Meanwhile, a serious sexual harassment lawsuit has emerged, adding to the turmoil. Devyn LaBella, a stunt performer on Chapters 1 and 2, has accused Costner and his production teams of sexual discrimination, harassment, and creating a hostile work environment.

LaBella, the lead stunt double for actress Ella Hunt, alleges that during a May 2023 shoot, Costner instructed her to perform in a violent, unscripted rape scene without prior notice, rehearsal, or the required intimacy coordinator present. According to the suit, Costner improvised the scene with actor Roger Ivens, who allegedly forcefully lifted LaBella’s skirt in a way that simulated assault. Hunt reportedly left the set visibly upset after the scene was proposed, and LaBella was brought in with no clear understanding of what the scene would entail. The lawsuit claims Costner failed to call “action” or “cut” consistently, leaving LaBella disoriented and vulnerable.

In a public statement, LaBella said: “On that day, I was left exposed, unprotected, and deeply betrayed by a system that promised safety and professionalism. What happened shattered my trust and forever changed how I navigate this industry.”

She also alleges retaliation after reporting the incident, including being removed from Chapter 3 and losing work opportunities from the stunt coordinator she had previously collaborated with.
